Planning an Autumn Wedding

Autumn is a magical time of the year to tie the knot and say I do. With those gorgeous autumnal tones of reds, burnt orange, brown and those rich colours, there is so much choice for couples planning their day. Plus let’s face it, our UK Summers aren’t always what they are cracked up to be, especially this year. You can guarantee though that once the children have gone back to school in September, we will have an Indian Summer through into October.

With our unreliable weather, it is always necessary, regardless of the time of year, to have a contingency plan should the heavens open and play out differently to what you have planned. If there is one thing that you can’t control, despite months or years of planning, it is after all the weather! So depending upon the type of wedding venue that you and your partner have chosen, it should be versatile enough to be able to cater for those Indian summer days with scorching temperatures with some shade options and on the flip side, maybe a cosy fireplace or snuggle blankets if you’re thinking of outdoor options.

If you are happy to say “i do” out of peak season, sometimes there might be a deal to be had! Plus, Summer is always hard to negotiate a date that your wedding guests can make without clashing with those summer holiday plans.

Where it all begins

Your wedding stationery is the first look at your big day. It is like a showreel to your wedding guests giving them a brief introduction of what to expect and the tone of the day. Speak to your designer about an Autumnal colour palette and how these can be used in your invitations regardless of wedding style.

How will I style my Autumn wedding?

Nowadays there are so many styling options available with some couples preferring to do a DIY wedding putting their own stamp on a wedding venue to create something bespoke to them. Whilst others prefer trusting the day with capable wedding suppliers who have tried and tested options and can work with you to create the look that you can envisage. Autumn is the time for pumpkins, conkers, pine cones and rich colours.

What do I wear?

Just because you are getting married in the Autumn, doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice on the type of wedding dress that you have always dreamed of. The key is layers, which can be judged on the day depending upon the weather. Alternatively, what’s to stop you from having more that one wedding day outfit? Let’s face it, if you can’t have options on your wedding day then when can you?

If you having bridesmaids, then why not try a range of styles with multiway dresses and colours too?

Did someone say cake?

Wedding cake is always remembered. Everyone loves cake don’t they? Why stick to plain flavours? After all, isn’t tasting sessions the best bit about working with a wedding cake designer? Think rustic colours and delve into thinking a little bit outside of the box.

Creating the look

Chat with your hair stylist and Make Up Artist about golden tones and bringing the outside in! Flower crowns or fresh foliage hair accessories  would set the tone perfectly. Warm and soft would compliment the time of year perfectly.

Food is always an important part of any wedding. Most weddings involve a lot of food and drink intertwined with fun! Food vans are so popular right now with the smokey wood fired pizza option, chocolate covered churros or delicious crepes! The list really is endless as to what is available now. If you’re saying I do in late Autumn, then its never too early for some mulled cider too!

Ending the day

Make sure you speak to your photographer about those silhouette images once the sun has gone down. Sparkler and fireworks are also a fabulous addition to any wedding and will certain create a “bang”!
